Workplace Injury FAQs

Being injured at work can be stressful, especially if you end up needing time off.

We are here to guide you through the entire claims process, which is not as complicated as you may think.

Here is a compilation of the most commonly asked questions that we've received.

What number do I call?

If you feel that you've just injured yourself at work, the first thing you should do is notify your supervisor. The supervisor will then fill out an incident report and you will be asked to call the workers compensation board (WCB) to make a claim.

What should I expect from physiotherapy?

The phone number to make a claim is (204) 954-4100. You will be asked to describe the injury in detail and be given a claim number.

How long can the decision process take?

It can take anywhere from 1-4 weeks, depending on the complexity of the claim.

What factors determine if my claim will be approved?

The decision to approve a claim is made after consideration of your supervisor's incident report, any physician's reports and the physiotherapist's report.

When should I come in for an assessment?

You can come in for a physiotherapy assessment anytime after you've made your claim. Keep in mind that the quicker we get your assessment report to your case worker, the quicker the decision on your claim will be made. Your initial assessment is fully covered by WCB, therefore you will not need to pay out of pocket.

What factors determine if my claim will be approved?

What can I expect from my first physiotherapy appointment?

Your appointment will typically be 45-60 minutes. You will be asked to perform a variety of movements and tests to assess severity of the soft tissue injury. Please wear comfortable clothes in which the area of injury can be easily accessed. Treatment will also be provided during the appointment.

What if I need to take time off?

Our physiotherapists will provide you with any required notes to the employer for you to be off work. We will also provide functional abilities forms to allow for modifications or reduced duties in the workplace.

Will I get paid if I miss work?

Once your claim is approved, WCB will pay you 90% of your normal wages.

How is it determined that I am ready to return to work?

As we progress in our treatments, you will perform a variety of functional movements that are related to your field of work, such as pushing, pulling and lifting. The values from these movements will be used to plan a safe return to work program.

What happens if my claim is denied?

If WCB has denied your claim, you will have the option to appeal the decision in writing.
